Science Fairs

International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2022, 2024

After qualifying through multiple rounds of rigorous judging for her science fair project, Ceres - a crop disease detection system using AI and machine learning - Laasya was given the incredible opportunity to represent her school, the state of Ohio, and the United States at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2022. She was selected again in 2024 to represent Ohio at ISEF with her project, an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle working in tandem with a multimodal neural network system for the widespread early detection of crop diseases. In addition to presenting her work to a panel of esteemed judges, Laasya had the chance to meet many amazing scientists and peers from around the world. The experience was truly unforgettable!
Ohio State Science Fair 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024
In all of the following listed years, Laasya was given the chance to advance to Ohio State Science Fair after receiving a Superior at the University of Cincinnati Regional Science Fair and also received a Superior at the Ohio State Science Fair.

In 2020, she was awarded The Lemelson Early Inventor Prize and first place in the Governor's Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in Information Science & Technology Research. 

​In 2021, Laasya was nominated by the Ohio State Science Fair to apply to Broadcom MASTERS 2021. She was awarded the Society for Science’s Lemelson Early Inventor First Place Prize, the Governor's Thomas Edison 1st Place Award for Excellence in Information Science & Technology Research, and the Believe In Ohio Stem Entrepreneurship Award.​ Laasya also received the the Data-driven, Data-informed, Data-inspired First Place Award.

In 2022, she was awarded the Believe in Ohio STEM Entrepreneurship Award by the Ohio State Science Fair. She was also awarded the Governor's Thomas Edison 1st Place Award for Excellence in Information Science & Technology Research and First Place Award for an Outstanding Project in Plant Pathology.

In 2023, Laasya was awarded 1st place in the Governor's Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in Information Science & Technology Research, the David J. Horn Stone Lab Entomology Scholarship, the JLG Excellence in Engineering Award, and the 4-year award.

In 2024, she received the Outstanding Project in Plant Pathology Award, the Stone Laboratory Scholarship, 1st Place in the Engineering Achievement Award, and the 5-year award.

Buckeye Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF Qualification) 2022, 2023, 2024

After successfully navigating two rounds of intense judging and meeting with over 20 judges to defend her research, Laasya was selected as one of the top 6 projects at the fair, featuring more than 100 projects. As a result, she was then selected as a finalist for the International Science and Engineering Fair 2022. She again repeated the process in 2024 and was selected to represent Ohio on the international level at International Science and Engineering Fair 2024.

Southwest Ohio Science and Engineering Expo​ 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024
In all of the following listed years, Laasya was nominated to the Southwest Ohio Science and Engineering Expo​ after receiving a Superior at her school district's science fair! She also received a Superior at the Expo every year, and advanced to the Ohio State Science Fair.

In 2020, at the Expo, she was awarded second place in the Ohio Chapter of the Mars Society Award, the American Statistical Association Award, and third place in the South Ohio Section of the Society of Women Engineers Award. 

In 2021, Laasya was nominated to apply to Broadcom MASTERS 2021. She also was awarded the GE Aviation Engineering Award and the American Statistical Association Award. In 2022, Laasya was awarded the American Statistical Association Award and the GE Aviation Award. In 2023, she was awarded the American Statistical Association Award and the GE Special Award for Engineering. In 2024, Laasya received the GE Aerospace Engineering and Ohio Soybean Bioscience Award.

Believe In Ohio/Ohio STEP 2022, 2024

In 2022, Laasya applied to the Believe in Ohio competition and was selected to present at the Believe in Ohio State Competition. From there, she was selected as one of the winners of the Believe in Ohio State Competition and received a scholarship to any Ohio college.

In 2024, Laasya again applied to the competition (now known as Ohio STEP) and was selected as an Honorable Mention. She then received an additional scholarship to any Ohio university.

Broadcom MASTERS 2020, 2021
Laasya was nominated by her district science fair to apply to Broadcom Masters in 2020 and by both her district and state science fair in 2021. She was selected as one of the Top 300 Broadcom MASTERS in both 2020 and 2021. Check out the Broadcom MASTERS site for more information about this challenge!
