The Earth Prize 2024
The Earth Prize is a national competition for students with projects that have the potential to address environmental sustainability issues. The application involves multiple parts and questions. Only 1% of all applicants are selected as scholars. Laasya was selected as an Earth Prize Scholar.
NCWIT Aspirations in Computing High School Award 2024
The National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Aspirations in Computing High School Award honors high school women who have achieved many accomplishments in computer science. Laasya was selected for this award due to her extensive work in neural networks and machine learning. She eventually received the NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Honorable Mention Award.

GENIUS Olympiad 2022, 2023, 2024
Qualifying to the Genius Olympiad is a multi-step process, where only about 2,000 students qualify internationally. Laasya qualified to this Olympiad as a finalist and spent time presenting her research multiple times. She then received a Silver Medal for her work in 2022, and a Bronze Medal for her work in 2023. While Laasya was selected as a finalist in 2024, she was unable to attend the final event to compete for a medal due to scheduling conflicts.
American Junior Academy of Science (Ohio) Melvin Scholar 2022, 2023, 2024
Laasya was chosen by the Ohio Academy of Science to be a Melvin Scholar in 2022 and thus present her work at the American Junior Academy of Science (AJAS) Conference, hosted by AJAS, which is national honor society recognizing high school students for outstanding scientific work. The conference was held in Washington DC in March 2023. Laasya was again chosen as a Melvin Scholar in 2023, but was unable to attend the conference due to scheduling conflicts. She has been selected as a 2024 Scholar, and will attend the AJAS conference in Boston in February 2025.
3M Young Scientist Challenge 2020
Laasya was a finalist in the 2020 3M Young Scientist Challenge. After her initial entry, she was selected to compete in the Final Event, taking place in October.
After three days of a scientific competition, with hand-on challenges and a presentation in front of a prestigious panel of judges, Laasya was a 3rd place winner in the challenge. |
Junior Science & Humanities Symposium 2022, 2023, 2024
At the Ohio Junior Science & Humanities Symposium (OJSHS), Laasya placed fourth in her state. From there, she advanced to the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS). This event exposes high school students to the various ways in which STEM is used in the armed forces and gives students the opportunity to present their own work. Laasya placed fourth in her categoy of Math and Computer Science.

Conrad Challenge 2022
Laasya was recognized as a Pete Conrad Scholar, the highest honor at the Conrad Challenge, for her groundbreaking work on water contamination and her plan to bring this research to the global market. She excelled in three rounds of competition and was invited to present at the final round of the Conrad Challenge in Houston. At this event, Laasya became the first student ever to receive both the Pete Conrad Scholar award and the Power Pitch award. From this competition, Laasya was nominated to and then received a membership the Sigma XI Organization, which is a scientific research honor society.

ProjectCSGirls 2021
Laasya was selected as a finalist in the ProjectCSGirls competition, a competition created by ProjectCSGirls, a nonprofit organization working to cultivate passion for technology and computer science in young girls and encourage them to pursue these fields. She then went on to become a third place Grand Prize Winner, for her work in using AI and machine learning to develop a device to detect fruit diseases using imaging.
